La data in cui s'inziò ad edificare il castello non è conosciuta con esattezza, ma sembra possa essere il 1229, quando Federico II donò a Recanati la terra su cui sorge. Costruito per proteggere la popolazione della costa dagli attacchi dei Turchi, fu distrutto, ricostruito e ampliato numerose volte nel corso dei secoli. Il castello è situato in pieno centro cittadino, prospicente la piazza principale.<\/p>\n

La torre principale, quadratica, sembra essere stata costruita prima dell'intera fortificazione, mentre quella secondaria, cilindrica, risale al 1400 circa. Le mura merlate sono ben conservate ma oggi scoperte nella maggior parte. La corte del castello ospita oggi l'arena "B.
